Hyolithes mantouensis was named by Resser and Endo (1937) [COMMENTS: Poor preservation of type specimens for this species renders it's diagnosis incomplete and it's generic identifications doubtful. TYPE SPECIMEN: = lectotype. TAPHONOMY: The lectotype retains some scattered shell fragments with lirae on the exterior; some paralectotypes have smaller, less well preserved, shell fragments adhering to the exterior, and some have no shell material at all.]. Its type specimen is USNM 86719-B, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
