Orthotheca doris was named by Walcott (1905) [COMMENTS: Morphology of the type does not suggest affinity to Hyolitha. Better preserved specimens may show that this species should be excluded completely from the Hyolitha.]. Its type specimen is USNM 56813, a shell, and it is a mold.
