Orthotheca glabra was named by Walcott (1911) [TYPE SPECIMEN: = lectotype.]. Its type specimen is USNM 57567-B, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Hyolithes glabrus by Resser and Endo (1937); it was recombined as Decoritheca glabrus by Malinky (1990).
