Taxonomy
Hemilecanites was named by Spath (1934) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302 Genotype: Lecanites discus Arthaber 1908]. It is not extant. Its type is Lecanites discus.

It was assigned to Xenodiscida by Spath (1934); to Dieneroceratidae by Kummel (1969); to Xenodiscidae by Tozer (1981); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Hemilecanitidae by Guex et al. (2010) and Ehiro et al. (2016).
