Megalosauropus brionensis was named by Haubold (1971). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is a trace fossil. Its type locality is Kap Rocca tracksite, Ploce Promontory, which is in a Barremian/Albian peritidal wackestone/packstone in Croatia.
