Taxonomy
Hungarites was named by Mojsisovics (1879) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis-u Tr Ladi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is the type genus of Hungaritidae.

It was reranked as Ceratites (Hungarites) by Hauer (1896).

It was assigned to Ceratites by Hauer (1896); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Hungaritidae by Spath (1951), Tozer (1981), Brack and Rieber (1993), Tozer (1994) and Pérez Valera (2005).
