Hypisculites was named by Spath (1951) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori-m Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Isculites dieneri.

It was assigned to Episculitinae by Spath (1951); to Episculitidae by Tozer (1981) and Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
