Indoceltites was named by Diener (1919) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Celtites trigonalis.

It was assigned to Celtitidae by Spath (1951); to Thanamitidae by Tozer (1981) and Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
