Taxonomy
Lutraria truncata was named by Gabb (1864). Its type specimen is UCBMP 12205, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was replaced with Spisula chicoensis by Packard (1916); it was recombined as Cymbophora truncata by Anderson (1958); it was recombined as Willimactra (Petromactra) truncata by Saul (1973) and Elder and Saul (1993).
