Taxonomy
Ceratopsammia besairiei was named by Alloiteau (1958). Its type locality is Analavelona, which is in a Campanian/Maastrichtian marine horizon in Madagascar.

It was recombined as Balanophyllia besairiei by Baron-Szabo (2008).
