Taxonomy
Goniocidarina was named by Mortensen (1928). It is extant. Its type is Goniocidaris.

It was reranked as the subfamily Goniocidarinae by Fell (1966), Smith (2009) and Kroh and Smith (2010).

It was assigned to Stereocidarinae by Mortensen (1928); and to Cidaridae by Fell (1966), Smith (2009) and Kroh and Smith (2010).
