Taxonomy
Cidarina was named by Gray (1825). It is extant. Its type is Cidaris.

It was reranked as the unranked clade Cidarinae by Fell (1966), Kier (1980), Donovan (1993), Smith (2009) and Kroh and Smith (2010).

It was assigned to Stereocidarinae by Mortensen (1928); and to Cidaridae by Fell (1966), Kier (1980), Donovan (1993), Smith (2009) and Kroh and Smith (2010).
