Taxonomy
Lecanites was named by von Mojsisovics (1882) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi-u Tr Carn-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302,1066]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Lecanitidae.

It was assigned to Lytoceratinae by von Mojsisovics (1882); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Lecanitidae by Spath (1951), Tozer (1981) and Vörös (2018).
