Taxonomy
Metasibirites was named by Mojsisovics (1896) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Ammonites spinescens. It is the type genus of Metasibiritidae.

It was assigned to Haloritidae by Smith (1927); to Metasibiritidae by Spath (1951), Tozer (1979), Tozer (1981) and Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
