Taxonomy
Metasibirites was named by Mojsisovics (1896) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Ammonites spinescens. It is the type genus of Metasibiritidae.

It was reranked as Sibirites (Metasibirites) by von Mojsisovics (1896).

It was assigned to Sibirites by von Mojsisovics (1896); to Haloritidae by Smith (1927); to Metasibiritidae by Spath (1951), Tozer (1979), Tozer (1981) and Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
