Taxonomy
Nathorstites was named by Boehm (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi-u Tr Carn-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Popanoceras mcconnelli. It is the type genus of Nathorstitaceae, Nathorstitidae.

It was assigned to Nathorstitidae by Spath (1951), Tozer (1981) and Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
