Neoclypites was named by Spath (1951) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Metahedenstroemia desertorum.

It was assigned to Carnitidae by Spath (1951); to Noritidea by Tozer (1981); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
