Neocolumbites was named by Zacharov (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Columbitidae by Tozer (1981) and Guex et al. (2010).
