Parahauerites was named by Diener (1916) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Hauerites ashleyi.

It was assigned to Carnitidae by Spath (1951) and Tozer (1981); to Klamathitidae by Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
