Taxonomy
Parapinacoceras was named by Diener (1916) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Pinacoceras aspidoides.

It was assigned to Pinacoceratidae by Spath (1951) and McLearn (1969); to Gymnitidae by Tozer (1981); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
