Taxonomy
Pararcestes was named by Mojsisovics (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis Tr Carn Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Arcestes sublabiatus.

It was reranked as Arcestes (Pararcestes) by Seyed-Emami et al. (2009).

It was assigned to Arcestidae by Spath (1951), Astakhova (1971) and Tozer (1981); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Arcestes by Seyed-Emami et al. (2009).
