Parathetidites was named by Tozer (1971) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori-m Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Heraclites exquisitus.

It was assigned to Thetiditidae by Tozer (1981) and Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
