Taxonomy
Phyllytoceras was named by Wiedmann (1970) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Phyllytoceras intermedium. It is the type genus of Phyllytoceratidae.

It was assigned to Phyllytoceratidae by Wiedmann (1970); to Gymnitidae by Tozer (1981); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
