Proplacenticeras sutherlandbrowni was named by McLearn (1972). Its type specimen is GSC 21227, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Rapidoplacenticeras sutherlandbrowni by Alabushev (1995); it was recombined as Beudanticeras sutherlandbrowni by Latil et al. (2023).
