Taxonomy
Procarnites was named by Arthaber (1911) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Procarnitidae.

It was assigned to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Procarnitidae by Tozer (1981), Tozer (1994), Shigeta and Nguyen (2014) and Ehiro et al. (2016).
