Proharpoceras was named by Chao (1950) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant.
It was assigned to Melagathiceratidae by Tozer (1981); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Anderssonoceratidae by Brayard et al. (2007) and Brayard and Bucher (2008).
