Pronoetlingites was named by Parnes (1975) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis-m Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Pronoetlingites arifensis.
It was assigned to Noetlingitinae by Tozer (1981) and Parnes (1986); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
