Taxonomy
Pontifennia gracilis was named by Cope (2005). Its type locality is Pont y Fenni Quarry, Fennian, which is in a Fennian deep-water mudstone/shale in the Pont y Fenni Formation of the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Pontifennia.
