Taxonomy
Sandlingites was named by Mojsisovics (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Ammonites oribasus. It is the type genus of Sandlingitidae.

It was assigned to Tirolitidae by von Mojsisovics (1896); to Clydonitidae by Spath (1951); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Sandlingitidae by Tozer (1981), Tozer (1994) and Lukeneder and Lukeneder (2014).
