Serpianites was named by Rieber (1973) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Celtites serpianensis.

It was assigned to Beyrichitinae by Tozer (1981); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
