Vascoceras (Greenhornoceras) birchbyi was named by Cobban and Scott (1972). Its type specimen is USNM 164022, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Vascoceras birchbyi by Ifrim and Stinnesbeck (2007).
