Taxonomy
Sirenites was named by Mojsisovics (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Ammonites senticosus. It is the type genus of Sirenitinae.

It was reranked as Trachyceras (Sirenites) by Frech (1912).

It was assigned to Tirolitidae by von Mojsisovics (1896); to Trachyceras by Frech (1912); to Trachyceratidae by Spath (1951) and Astakhova (1971); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Sirenitinae by Tozer (1981), Tozer (1994) and Lukeneder and Lukeneder (2014).
