Taxonomy
Steinmannites was named by Mojsisovics (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori-m Tr Nori-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Ammonites hoernesi. It is the type genus of Steinmannitidae.

It was assigned to Clionitidae by Spath (1951); to Clionititidae by Tozer (1981); to Steinmannitidae by Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
