Taxonomy
Svalbardiceras was named by Frebold (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Lecanites spitzbergensis.

It was assigned to Meekoceratidae by Spath (1934) and Kummel (1969); to Olenikitinae by Tozer (1994); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Olenikitidae by Guex et al. (2010).

J. Guex et al. 2010Shell discoidal. The umbilicus measures between 20 and 30 % of the diameter. Venter tabulate to subtabulate. The phragmocone has simple ribbing comparable to that of Olenekites altus (Mojsisovics). Ceratitic suture line with weakly indented lobes; presence of a shallow U3.
