Diestoceras waynesvillense was named by Flower (1946). Its type specimen is MU 446T, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Harvey Branch, N of Oldenburg, which is in a Richmondian deep subtidal shelf claystone/limestone in the Bull Fork Formation of Indiana.
