Taxonomy
Tornquistites was named by Hyatt and Smith (1905) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Tornquistites evolutus.

It was assigned to Tropitidae by Smith (1927); to Tropiceltitidae by Spath (1951), Tozer (1981) and Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
