Taxonomy
Desmoceras chimuense was named by Benavides-Caceres (1956). Its type specimen is AMNH 27388:1, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bed 6, Tamberia section, which is in an Albian carbonate limestone in the Inca Formation of Peru.
