Taxonomy
Moffitites robustus was named by Imlay (1959). Its type specimen is USNM 129874, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Alaska, Kennicott Formation, USGS Mes. loc. 2191, which is in an Albian marginal marine shale/sandstone in the Kennicott Formation of Alaska.
