Dasyceras was named by Hyatt (1900) [Sepkoski's age data: J Sine]. Its type is Phylloceras rakosense.

It was assigned to Phylloceratidae by Hyatt (1900); to Juraphyllitidae by Arkell et al. (1957); and to Phylloceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
