Meneghiniceras was named by Hyatt (1900) [Sepkoski's age data: J Sine J Toar-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. Its type is Ammonites (Phylloceras) lariensis.

It was reranked as Juraphyllites (Meneghiniceras) by Géczy and Meister (1998).

It was assigned to Phylloceratidae by Hyatt (1900); to Juraphyllites by Géczy and Meister (1998); and to Phylloceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
