Taxonomy
Thamnastraea garumnica was named by Vidal (1921). Its type locality is Isona, Barranco de la Posa, which is in a Maastrichtian shallow subtidal limestone/marl in Spain.

It was recombined as Synastrea garumnica by Bataller (1937).
