Abrytusites was named by Nikolov and Brekoviski (1969).

It was corrected as Abrytasites by Wright et al. (1996); it was misspelled as Abrytasites by Sepkoski (2002) and Kiessling (2003).

It was assigned to Puzosiinae by Wright et al. (1996); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Desmoceratidae by Kiessling (2003).
