Neochonetes variolata
Taxonomy
Leptaena variolata was named by d'Orbigny (1842). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Yaurichambi (d'Orbigny coll), which is in an Asselian open shallow subtidal limestone in the Copacabana Formation of Bolivia.
It was recombined as Chonetes variolata by Tschernyschew (1902), Mansuy (1913), Kozlowski (1914) and Lee and Gu (1980); it was recombined as Chonetes variolatae by Diener (1915); it was recombined as Chonetes variolatus by Ustritsky (1960) and Ustritsky and Chernyak (1963); it was recombined as Neochonetes variolatus by Fantini Sestini (1965); it was recombined as Neochonetes variolata by Termier et al. (1974) and Kalashnikov (1993).
