Turrilites pauper was named by Whitfield (1892) [DISTRIBUTION: Campanian-Maastrichtian; North America, Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Nostoceras (Nostoceras) pauper by Kennedy and Cobban (1993) and Kennedy (1993); it was recombined as Nostoceras pauper by Kennedy et al. (2000).
