Amauroceras was named by Buckman (1913) [Sepkoski's age data: J Plie-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Amaltheidae by Howarth (1955) and Howarth (2013).
