Anadesmoceras was named by Casey (1954) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-l]. Its type is Anadesmoceras strangulatum.
It was assigned to Hoplitidae by Kennedy et al. (1980); to Cleoniceratinae by Alabushev (1995); to Cleoniceratidae by Wright et al. (1996); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Vnigriceratinae by Lehmann et al. (2013).
