Analytoceras was named by Hyatt (1900) [Sepkoski's age data: J Hett-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Analytoceras articulatus. It is the type genus of Analytoceratidae.
It was assigned to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); to Analytoceratinae by Hoffmann and Keupp (2010); and to Pleuroacanthinae by Hoffmann (2010).
