Ammonites cristatus was named by Brongniart (1822). It is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Dipoloceras, Dipoloceras (Dipoloceras).
It was recombined as Dipoloceras (Dipoloceras) cristatum by Marcinowski and Wiedmann (1990), Kennedy et al. (1999), Bulot et al. (2005) and El Qot (2018); it was recombined as Dipoloceras cristatum by Hyatt (1900), Spath (1921), Reyment (1955), Förster (1975) and Tajika et al. (2018).
It was recombined as Dipoloceras (Dipoloceras) cristatum by Marcinowski and Wiedmann (1990), Kennedy et al. (1999), Bulot et al. (2005) and El Qot (2018); it was recombined as Dipoloceras cristatum by Hyatt (1900), Spath (1921), Reyment (1955), Förster (1975) and Tajika et al. (2018).
