It was recombined as Dimorphastrea escharoides by Milne-Edwards and Haime (1851); it was recombined as Thamnastraea escharoides by de Fromentel (1884); it was recombined as Synastrea escharoides by Leloux (1999); it was recombined as Morphastrea escharoides by d'Orbigny (1850) and Baron-Szabo (2002).
