Taxonomy
Steriphonotrochus pulcher was named by Vaughan (1900). Its type locality is Red Bluff, which is in a Rupelian marine horizon in the Red Bluff Formation of Mississippi.

It was recombined as Bathycyathus pulcher by Kiessling (2008).
